A three-story apartment building and a house next to it were destroyed by a fire early Sunday morning in Bridgeville.

Officials said the blaze started at the apartment building on Baldwin Street just before 4 a.m.

Several people were evacuated from the two buildings, but no injuries were reported.

According to Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE, a demolition crew will tear down what remains of the apartment building.

Desiree King lived in the apartment building and said she made it out with nothing except the clothes on her back.

"I woke up, started coughing, smelled smoke and went downstairs," King said. "That's when I saw the fire in my kitchen."

Bridgeville Fire Chief Bill Chilleo said one firefighter was taken to a local hospital to get checked out, but he is OK.

Chilleo said the flames started in a rear corner of the apartment building and spread to the house next to it.

"They think it started in my apartment, but they don't exactly know how yet," King said.

The Allegheny County fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
